Skirts: Long, Short, or Somewhere in Between?

My favorite thing about skirts is that I’m not limited to one heel height. If you know me, are a client or have been reading my e-Style Tip or Blog for very long, you know I’m a real stickler for pant length. If you want your pants to be long enough, you can vary your heel height minimally at best. On the other hand,  a basic skirt can be worn with the highest of heels for an edgy look and with flats for a more casual feel. While skirt length isn’t nearly as precarious as pant length, exploring  what skirt lengths work best for you can help you look and feel your best at all times.

Tips to help you determine your best skirt lengths:

(Oh, and these tips mostly refer to professional dress, so mini skirts and maxi’s aren’t addressed. ) The most popular skirt lengths right now are from just above the knee to just below the knee. Your best length will depend on your legs, your knees,  and your comfort level. To find the length you prefer best, start by trying on the skirts you love most. Look at yourself from the side and rear. Take note of where they hit on (Read more...)

Lovin’ Red Jeans!

As a nod to the resurgence of seventies fashion, colorful pants are back in style. And with so much colored clothing to choose from, why not pants. The key to a modern look  is to let the red, blue, green or whatever color your heart desires pants be the star of your outfit. In other words, keep your top fairly neutral and quiet. Wearing any type of colorful top with bright bottoms can lead to a romper room type look. I am dying for a pair of red skinny jeans that I just haven’t shopped for yet. I’m planning on wearing them with my stone colored, satin trench coat for an eclectic look. Because I won’t wear the coat at all times, (might get a little warm,) I will probably wear a simple, white top paired with casual gold jewelry. I’ll most likely wear metallic flats or tan sandals as the weather warms up. Colorful pants are the answer to the inverted rectangle figure type’s, (a.k.a. mine,) dreams! Because we want to fill out our bottom halves and minimize our wide shoulders, bright bottoms work perfectly, but they've been seriously out of style for several years. So what do you think? Will you (Read more...)

Verticals are your friends

I love camouflage dressing especially right after the holidays. Here's how to use the element of Line to help you look sleek and chic! Think of your favorite striped pants. Chances are good that they have thin, subtle stripes. Narrowly spaced, vertical stripes and lines lead the eye up and down your body, making you appear taller and thinner. Widely spaced, thick vertical stripes with great color contrast move the eye across your body making it appear wider than it is.

Scouting Fall Fashion

In just a few mere days, all of the Fall Fashion Preview issues of the fashion magazines will be hitting the newsstands! Admittedly, it's a pretty exciting time of year for me. Although the magazines have been giving small glimpses of fall for most of the summer, September is when the big, thick, "bibles" hit. You may be wondering why I'm talking about this. It's simple, one word, okay well two: Wardrobe Planning! By seeing the new trends and designer offerings, you can begin to get a good feel for what you need to update and complete your wardrobe.
My favorite magazines are Vogue, Harper's Bazaar and InStyle. Lucky and Marie Claire are pretty trendy and don't really have anything professional.
Instead of simply planning a trip to the mall, where it's easy to get overwhelmed and sidetracked, take a little time to browse the magazines and see what you really like. Don't just look at the fashion editorial. Study the advertisements as well. (This is the Super Bowl of
